GET SET FILMS

Born out of a do-it-yourself ethic, a love of filmmaking, and a drive to keep getting better by getting shit done, Get Set Films is a rigorous and ambitious company bent on showcasing Newfoundland talent while telling stories that strike a universal chord. With a solid background in short film and several features on the horizon, Get Set’s sensibilities focus on character, performance and script, striving for honesty and impact in every film they make.

Collaborations between writer/director Jordan Canning and writer/composer Jody Richardson include The House Series (Bedroom, Kitchen and Bathroom) - a trilogy of shorts each set in a different room of a house. Bedroom screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and was awarded Best Atlantic Short at the 2008 Atlantic Film Festival. It is currently being distributed by Ouat Media and has been broadcast on Movieola.

In spring 2009 they released their NSI Drama Prize winning short, Countdown - a dark comedy about a concert pianist who starts losing the use of his fingers, one by one. Countdown was selected as a top ten finalist in the NFB Cannes Short Film Competition and placed second internationally out of over 1400 films. It continues to move through the festival circuit, so far screening in the Cannes Short Film Corner, the Just For Laughs Film Festival, the Atlantic Film Festival, The Houston International Film Festival, the Yorkton Film Festival and the World Expo in Shanghai, among others.

Get Set Films is currently developing a number of feature films. Eleanor is a psychological drama about a woman obsessed with her doctor, who begins intentionally hurting herself to get closer to him. On the lighter side, Little Summer Forever is a romantic comedy exploring love’s changing of the guard, set in the throes of a Summer Stock musical production. Very soon, Jordan will begin adapting Jessica Grant's award-winning novel, Come, Thou Tortoise.
