Fall, Winter, Spring...

It's been a whirlwind year for Get Set Films, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down!

WEBSITE
First of all we are happy to announce that our website will soon be getting a major facelift by the divine designing duo coloveration. Many exciting changes soon to come!

BEST SERVED
The Pathological Lovers' music video, Best Served, was nominated for Video of the Year at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards. Here's to our little monster music video that could! If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out here.

NOT OVER EASY
It's been an amazing few months for Not Over Easy. Its festival run started off with a bang when composers Jody Richardson and Grant King won for Best Music at the 2010 Atlantic Film Festival. Since then, the film has been making its way across Canada and the United States. Just last week, Jordan was in New York, stunned, honored and giddy to be screening the film at the Tribeca Film Festival. Not Over Easy was part of an animated shorts program and was received with hoots, hollers and applause. Check out this great review on reviewfix.com.

Nashville, Newport Beach and Nantucket are next up on the film's journey. More updates to come as we continue to hear back from festivals...

UP NEXT

Since January, Jordan has been working on a short film through the CFC called Oliver Bump's Birthday, which is set for release in June - stay tuned for more on that soon.

After that, she'll be digging in to write a first draft of Oddly Flowers - an adaptation of Jessica Grant's novel, Come, Thou Tortoise - which is being produced by Paul Pope and Pope Productions.

It's going to be a busy summer!

Lots to talk about

We can say with all honesty that these have been very exciting times for Get Set Films.

COUNTDOWN
Countdown, our comic short which so many people keep taking very seriously, screened at the 43rd (holy cow!) Houston International Film Festival and was awarded a Remi Award!. The film was also nominated for two Golden Sheaf Awards at the Yorkton Film Festival, and we just found out that it won for Best Director in Fiction. We are so, so thrilled by this honour!

NOT OVER EASY
Not Over Easy, our new non-dialogue-stop-animation-egg-noir short film has successfully received funding from Bravo!Fact, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation and the Newfoundland Linda Joy Award last fall. So it’s full steam ahead! Sam Pryse-Phillips and Jordan Canning have been up in Toronto since May 4, chugging away with an amazing team. Animator Mike DeCroock is making magic on a daily basis, bringing the egg characters to life.

BEST SERVED
The Best Served video for the band Pathological Lovers has been released into the world and can be watched (again and again, hopefully!) HERE.

After finishing the video, Jordan went into hibernation mode, trying to finish a feature film treatment for the drama, Eleanor. Well, the treatment is done, and now it’s onto a first draft screenplay. That marks the third feature film that Get Set is developing, and we’re very excited about all of them! This fall, Jordan will also begin adapting Jessica Grant's amazing award-winning novel, Come, Thou Tortoise.

After completing Not Over Easy, Jordan will be heading back up to Toronto to participate in the Canadian Film Centre's Director's Lab. She is very excited about all the fantastic filmmakers she's going to meet and collaborate with.

Stay tuned for more...

In recent news

It's been an exciting couple of months for Get Set Films. In early January, we completed Best Served, a music video for St. John's rockers Pathological Lovers. The video is a hilarious homage to Young Frankenstein and stars all the members of the band in the roles they were seemingly born to play - Frankenstein, Igor, Wolfman and, of course, the Doctor. The video also features the great Krystin Pellerin of Republic of Doyle. The video will be released to the universe on February 20th. Watch for it soon on Youtube.

Countdown continues to garner success from around the world. In October is was awarded Audience Choice at Filmstock UK, and it was selected as one of the 45 films to be screened in the Canadian Pavillion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Ouat Media has recently acquired the film for distribution, so watch for it soon on a small screen near you.

There are many other projects brewing, including a number of music videos, a short stop motion animation, and three feature films that we are currently developing. Stay tuned...

House Series

All three films of The House Series were recently acquired by Ouat Media Distribution and were sold to Movieola. If you're flying anywhere, watch for Bedroom on the Movieola channel on Air Canada!

Countdown is making its rounds through festivals across the globe. This summer, it screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner Screening Series , the Just for Laughs Film Festival in Montreal and the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival in South Korea. In June, Countdown was named Audience Choice at the Nickel Independent Film Festival.

Next up, Countdown will be screening in Halifax at the Atlantic Film Festival, and at Cinéfest Sudbury. Then it's off to St. John's International Women's Film Festival in a few short weeks!

Stay tuned for more news to come...in the meantime have a look around the new site, and let us know what you think!
